I am 29 years old and have been practicing Tai Chi since 2004. I first came across Tai Chi when my friend introduced the idea...
The Maltby Tai Chi for Mobility Group celebrated its first anniversary on Friday 19th July at the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall. The group originally started in July 2011 with support from Rotherham Council as an initial 12 week programme and it has been running ever since. Over 50 people attended the initial classes and at the end of the 12 weeks they decided they would try and keep to keep the group running on a self sustaining basis. The group has steadily grown over the year with new starters joining on a regular basis. New beginners often remark on how friendly and welcoming they find the group and there is plenty of opportunity for socialising in the refreshments break.
For the celebration the group were joined by Dr. Helen Hawley, Public Health Specialist, Michelle Morgan from the NHS Falls Prevention Team and Maltby Town Councillors Kathryn Astbury and Jenny Andrews. Dr. Hawley is now looking to promote similar groups across Rotherham as part of a programme to encourage people who are not active to take part in regular exercise and in particular to help prevent falls.
The Maltby Tai Chi Group meets every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and there is another group at Clifton Park Garden Room on Mondays between 11 and 12.30. New members are always welcome at both groups.
